Guaranteed job security Overview As a Metalsmith in the Army, you’ll have a ‘hands on’ role in the shaping, joining and treating of metals, plastics, polymers and ceramics. You’ll be provided with conversion training to equip you to use your existing qualification on military specific equipment. Your job will involve the heat treatment of metals, cutting sheet metal, operating power presses, and welding with gas, electric arc and oxyacetylene equipment. You’ll be required to weld, solder, rivet, bolt and fit shapes, as well as make attachments and joints, and repair panels and sections. You’ll also work with metals in a variety of forms, including castings, sheets, bars and formed sections. You’ll work in a tight knit team and form friendships that will last a lifetime. Upon completion of training, you’ll enjoy a starting salary package of approximately $65,885 p.a. + 18% superannuation. Employment Location You may be posted to any base within Australia or possibly overseas, although overseas postings are limited. Entry Requirements You must be at least 17 years of age and an Australian citizen, or if you hold a Permanent Residency status your application may be considered. Additional age, medical and fitness guidelines may also apply. Education Requirements You must have completed a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication (or equivalent) in one of the following trade qualifications: Trade Certificate as Welder 1st Class; Boilermaker Marker Off; Boilermaker Welder; or Certificate III Sheet Metal Worker.
