Boral Asphalt NSW is seeking a motivated and responsible heavy vehicle/Plant Tradesperson, based at our Thornton workshop.

Reporting to the Asset Supervisor, the successful candidate will be involved in the maintenance program on fixed and mobile equipment.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Prompt action and close out of safety issues affecting the workplace
  • Work to maintenance/repair schedules
  • Complete maintenance documentation
  • Field service work which will include fault finding and repair of mechanical, hydraulic and 12/24v electrical systems

The type of candidate we are seeking will have:

  • A mechanical trade certificate in heavy transport or plant diesel mechanics (essential)
  • A valid drivers licence (essential )
  • Welding Qualifications (desirable)
  • Experience in Heavy Vehicle and/or Plant Maintenance
  • Sound knowledge and experience in hydraulics and basic auto electrics
  • MVRIC license highly regarded
  • Self motivated and able work unsupervised.
  • Able to work overtime as required
  • Good knowledge of workplace safety
  • Good communication and basic computer skills

About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Workshop Team Leader to take on the challenge of overseeing the fabrication activity at our Hunter Valley facility in Rutherford.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement safe working practices to ensure superior levels of safety and housekeeping are obtained – achieve zero lost time injuries in workshop
  • Direct and supervise personnel to execute assigned work to required standards
  • Develop standard work practices and procedures
  • Assist to prepare accurate and professional quotations for internal and external customers
  • Actively pursue work on Joy Global and non-Joy Global equipment to maximise work volume and recoveries
  • Administer company personnel policies and practices
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and Safety Observations
  • Control consumable and tooling usage to minimise wastage
  • Control and review daily timesheets from shop floor personnel on a daily basis
  • Ensure Corporate Engineering Standards are met

Job Purpose:

The administration and coordination of all aspects of the Welding Engineering function across all TUS sites: Duco Ltd, Duco Inc, Angoflex and Asiaflex.

Reporting To:

Job Roles, including but not limited to:

  • Providing welding engineering consultancy services to customers, to include both internal project teams and clients, for all TUS units
  • Liaise with customers and third parties on all aspects of welding procedures, welding qualifications and welder qualifications as necessary.
  • Assist with the management of on-site welding subcontractor welding procedures and welder qualifications.
  • Assume responsibility for welding related development work, welding trials and improvements.
  • Liaise with QC department in all welding related matters, NDT and weld data logs.
  • Preparation and review of all welding procedures, standards and specifications, including those of sub-contractors
  • Delivering technical projects, including reports, to customers on programmes of work in the field of welding and/or materials engineering
  • Providing welding engineering consultancy to other groups in the company, including input into failure investigations carried out
  • Give presentations to and participate in technical meetings with clients
  • Contribute towards the safety and wellbeing of all team members by continually promoting, developing and reaffirming companies Health and Safety management system to create and maintain an Incident Injury Free environment
  • Contribute toward department improvement initiatives, in safety, quality and efficiency

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Diploma in welding engineering as a minimum or degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science
  • Competent in developing weld procedure documents packages including PWPS, WPS, PQR for exotic metals (upper duplex, 316, etc) TIG manual / Orbital techniques.
  • Experienced in interpreting welding and mechanical testing related specifications and standards.
  • NDT experience in the most common disciplines would be beneficial

  • Testing to client specifications in acccordance with 6G ASME 9 standard
  • Assist the applications engineers in hardware assembly and testing during periods of low welding activities
  • Monitor progress as relevant to the Applications department through the factory and reporting to the Applications supervisor highlighting any issues.
  • Working to instructions applicable to welding activities i.e. job sheets,technical specifications ,procedures and manufacturing instructions
  • Carry out safety tours and inspections as required by company QHS E policy and report any unsafe acts/ conditions. Support internal departments as necessary in the resolution of problems ,identification procedures, the close out of NCR’S to enable continuity and progress against the project schedule to be achieved.
  • Liase with the supervisor to identiify, agree, plan and co ordinate welding activities, resources and equipment needs
  • Identify and introduce improvements into the welding process

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Time served welding apprentiship.
  • Experience of super duplex, pipe welding and TIG welding
  • Qualification as per DUCO standards
